History of meditation in Los Angeles

The history of Los Angeles meditation is a lot older  than you might
think. As a center for creativity, Los Angeles has an fertile and
connected consciousness that can be helpful for finding more open
and receptive states.  A number of Saints have come to Los Angeles
for the purposes of teaching meditation, one the most prominent of
which is Paramahamsa Yogananda, who established the Self
Realization Fellowship in 1920 and chose Los Angeles for his
headquarters. Yogananda called the area the Varanasi (Benares)
of the West.

It has been mentioned by many of high consciousness that the South
West Coast of the US has been holy ground through a number of
civilizations for much more than 40,000 years. The ground has received
many blessings over the years, which might contribute to its
favorable geography for meditation.
